Congratulations! You have found Prasiolite gemstone! Prasiolite is a green form of quartz (amethyst). Almost all natural Prasiolite comes from Brazil. However, green amethyst does not occur naturally. It is produced by heating the amethyst. However, not all amethyst can be heated to produce prasiolite. According to gemological sources, only quartz from the Montezuma deposit in Minas Gerais, Brazil can be heated to produce prasiolite. Amethyst is heated to about 500 degrees centigrade to produce the leek-green color. Unfortunately, the color is known to fade when exposed to strong sunlight. The name is derived from Greek and literally means “garlic green colored stone” due to its green colored appearance.
