Topaz is a very refractive stone and harder than many other gemstones, with a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale. It has no special sensitivity to chemicals and can be used with any jewelry application.
A new high tech enhancement process applied to colorless stones has created a wide array of new colors in recent years. From blue to green to pink to shades of orange to rainbow colors.
The name topaz is probably derived from an island in the Red Sea, “Topazos”, today called Zabargad, and is also the ancient source of peridot.
Topaz is the birthstone for the month of November.
