Congratulations! You have found a Champagne Topaz gemstone! Topaz has become the 2nd most popular colored gemstone (sapphire is consistently number one).
This is not surprising since Topaz is a very refractive stone and harder than many other gemstones, with a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale. It has no special sensitivity to chemicals and can be used with any jewelry application.
The name topaz is probably derived from an island in the Red Sea, “Topazos”, today called Zabargad, and is also the ancient source of peridot.
Topaz is the birthstone for the month of November.
